Season Summary |
Fourth year as head coach 36 - 10 overall record. It was very successful year for Varsity. We lost only one regular season game, and were seeded #3 in the north section playoffs. Fourth consecutive year we have made the playoffs. We beat Chico in the first round of playoffs, lost to Foothill 19-0 in the semifinal round. This year was a real test for our team to overcome the loss of six all section players and a host of other good players to graduation. The theme was "Rebuild-.. Hell no Reload". The seniors provided great leadership throughout the season. We opened the season at corning with an exciting win, Jeff Dennis had 5 touchdowns and over 200 yards rushing. We went on to defeat Paradise, Chico at home, Lassen for homecoming and then beat Shasta High for our 4th consecutive River Bowl championship. With the win over Shasta, we completed our pre-league season undefeated at 5-0, in four years our pre-league record is 19-1. We opened league with a loss to Foothill and then rebounded with decisive wins over C.V., Yreka, Anderson, and West Valley, to finish 9-1 and 2nd place in the N.A.L.. Our offensive and defensive lines once again did a great job under coach Guilfoyle. Even though most of the linemen were Juniors, coach made the most of his group. The lineman led Jeff Dennis to a new school season rushing record of 1900 yards, and 32 total touchdowns. Coach Worley in his second year as offensive coordinator was faced with the task of keeping our offense scoring at the high rate of last year. Even though we lost 3 All Section backs (QB, RB and WR) who were the heart of our team offense of three years. Coach did a great job of re-loading our offense, and maintaining our philosophy of a balanced attack. ~PLAYERS BROUGHT
