Over View 2002

This season brought about many changes for the Enterprise Football and athletic teams. Construction of a new athletic training facility, two new athletic team rooms, remodeling of the locker and changing rooms. Also added was an on campus athletic trainer three days a week provided by Redding Rehab and Sports Medicine. We began a two-year realignment cycle which moved Enterprise into the Eastern Athletic League with P.V., Chico, Red Bluff, Shasta and Foothill. As listed above, the coaching staff remained virtually intact. Without their loyalty, dedication, the success of our program would have been greatly diminished.

Season Summary

This was my tenth year as head coach and once again we found a way to overcome last years success. Our overall record is now 91-27 with a winning percentage of 77.0 percent. We finished the season 11-1. This was the first time in school history a team has won 11 straight games, and only a second time an Enterprise team has gone 10-0. The off season began with 50 prospects participating in weight lifting and conditioning and culminated with nine days of spring practice. Our departing seniors once again hosted a farewell barbeque and the River Bowl was passed down to the juniors. The incoming eighth graders were invited and given an introduction to the Hornets Football program. During the summer our staff hosted two football camps for all athletes and participated in the Shasta College passing league. We continued our off season conditioning program. Several players were dropped during the spring through August commitment process. We started August double days with 31 players. We once again concluded double days with out weekend camp in McCloud. Redding Rehab provided athletic training and Mr. Angley and Mr. Carpenter again volunteered their services. The third week of practice concluded with our Black and Gold Scrimmage and parent meeting. A fundraiser and barbeque highlighted the day's activities. The week prior to the season, we hosted a 6-way scrimmage for all 3 levels (Oroville, Shasta, West Valley, Red Bluff, Corning and Enterprise) Our strength this season were, speed and experience at the skill position. We overwhelmed Corning in our opened 41-12. We did the same to West Valley and Anderson. Out fourth game was a blow out victory at Chico 72-20. Chico threw virtually every down and extended the game time by almost an hour. P.V. at home was our first real test. The game was close for three quarters. We hosted Yreka for Homecoming. It ended in a 41-0 shut out. Central Valley on the road was a much-anticipated contest since they only had 1 or 2 losses coming in. We scored on our first two possession and never looked back. We ended out regular season with three tough opponents Shasta, Foothill and Red Bluff. We defeated Shasta for the tenth straight year in a come from behind thriller. Down by 17 point at the end of the third quarter we exploded for 34 unanswered points. Foothill at home was a physical game that was won in the last few minutes with big plays on defense and a solid running game. We completed our 10 game schedule undefeated by beating   Red Bluff in the rain 14-7 at the Nest. We were awarded the number one seed and had a first round by in the playoffs. We defeated P.V. at Shasta College in a thriller 15-14. Brody Angley hit a 42 yd field goal with only second's left to advance us to our fourth straight section championship game. For the first time in school history we were 11-0.We hosted C.I.F finals at Enterprise losing to Lassen 7-28. Our overall record at the nest, since the opening of the stadium (October, 1, 1999) is 19-8. A great year exceeding all expectations, we were inexperienced on defense and undersized, and inexperienced on the line but we overcame all.

GOOD ATHLETES... GOOD COACHES... GREAT ATTITUDE!!
